Product Instructions - Gel Stains

VOODOO GEL STAIN

This stain is water based and is a little more translucent than the No Pain Gel Stain.

  • You can use all of our stains on painted or unpainted surfaces.
  • Both stains can be applied with a “lint free” cloth or you can use a paint brush or paint sponge.  My preferred applicator tool with stains is the Applicator Pad for sale in our booth or online on our website.
  • Start out with a small amount and then apply more depending on the shade you are looking for. Remember that less is more. We suggest testing it on a non-conspicuous spot first or some scrap wood.
  • Allow your first coat to dry before applying additional coats.
  • Once you’ve achieved your desired look, allow to dry for several days before applying a top coat.  Gel stains feel dry before they actually are.
  • The VooDoo Gel Stain colors blend and/or layer beautifully with each other and with Dixie Belle paints.  You can get really creative with this product!
  • Remember that VooDoo Gel Stain is water based and will dry faster than No Pain Gel Stain, which is oil based.

NO PAIN GEL STAIN

This stain is oil based and will have a deeper, fuller coverage than our VooDoo Gel Stain

  • You can use all of our stains on painted or unpainted surfaces.
  • Both stains can be applied with a “lint free” cloth or you can use a paint brush or paint sponge.  My choice for this product is the Applicator Pads for sale in our booth and online on our website.
  • I use a plastic spoon and spoon out the amount I think I’ll need onto a large paper plate for ease of application.  Unused portion can be put back in container.
  • Start out with a small amount and then apply more depending on the shade you are looking for. Remember that less is more. We suggest testing it on a non-conspicuous spot first or on a piece of scrap wood.
  • Apply using a long, smooth stroke from one end of project to the other.  Be careful to not arc your stroke, to keep your rows straight, as this will show in your finished project.
  • Allow your first coat to dry before applying a second.  No Pain Gel Stain is oil based and will require additional dry time.
  • Once you’ve achieved your desired look, allow to dry for 7-10 days before applying a top coat.  Gel stains feel dry before they actually are.  Our clear coats are water-based and NPGS is oil based, so the stain must be really dry before applying the top coat.

NOTE:  Samples of each color are available to see on a board in our booth at Antiques on the Prairie.
